NEW - Scott Fresener's T-TV Talk Show |
This idea has been in the works since the days of VHS. Now that YouTube is popular and streaming videos easy, we dusted off the T-TV format. Think of T-TV as the industry's first and only Talk Show for Garment Decorators. Each show will feature Scott Fresener doing interviews with industry experts, printers, employees of U.S. Screen, shop tours, trade show news and more. Check back often because we will be shooting two shows per week!
Tune in to T-TV
Show #1 features Terry Combs – a long time friend of the industry and salesman for U.S. Screen. Terry was a garage printer back in the 80's and moved into a Production Manager for large screeners and then wrote articles for Impressions, Screen Printing Magazine, Printwear and others, plus was a popular guest speaker at shows. Terry is also the director of our training center and teaches our popular Garment Printing Workshop and our Fast T-Jet Training classes along with writing articles for our website.

A Second Chance For Old Textiles
According to a recent article in "The Arizona Republic", Americans are disposing of roughly 3,000 tons in textiles every year. U'SAgain, a commercial recycling company, reported that the average American purchases up to 70 pounds of textiles every year and 85% of these textiles end up in landfills. This means that each U.S. citizen must pay more taxes to handle the disposal of this waste.
What most consumers don't realize is that there are alternatives to sending old, worn out textiles to the landfill. There are many non-profit organizations such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army that play crucial roles in the recycling of textiles. After donating your old textiles to one of these organizations they attempt to resell the items. If the item does not sell or is badly worn, these organizations then send it to what they call "rag sorters" who specialize in recycling all types of fabrics. According to Jana Hawley, a professor of textile and apparel management at the University of Missouri-Columbia, 99% of old textiles are recyclable. After the "rag sorters" receive the unwanted textiles they sell half of the clothing they get to developing countries and the other half is turned into things such as polishing cloths or shredded and used in a variety of products.
To get involved in recycling your old textiles please refer to the links below or view this article in the Arizona Republic.

I am often asked about the state of the inkjet-to-garment industry. I just returned from the large FESPA Digital trade show in Geneva Switzerland. While there I attended the first ever two day Digital Textile Symposium. It was a real eye opener. Most of the speakers were from the roll-to-roll side of the business. But, inkjet-to-garment was the hot topic. One of the large consulting firms, I.T. Strategies, said that TODAY, inkjet-to-garment printing accounted for over $900 million dollars in yearly retail sales of product, BUT, by 2010 it would account for over $13 billion retail dollars in product sold! Much of the digital textile business growth is predicted to be in inkjet-to-garment.
I also came away from the Geneva show and the recent ISS shows in the US with the feeling that inkjet-to-garment was ready to explode. Screen printers who were on the fence are jumping in with both feet as evidenced by the fact that we simply can't keep up with the demand for our T-Jet Blazer line of printers. And, one thing that was very clear from my trip and meetings with my dealers in Germany, Russia, Holland, Israel and others is that the T-Jet brand of equipment is still the #1 brand worldwide and global demand is very strong. If you have been on the fence and undecided, now is the time to take a second look at this amazing technology.
